bonnet latch problem

Hello, I am new to the forum and yesterday , having read a previous fantastic thread about drivers door regulators I fitted a d/s regulator having purchased it on ebay. I was thrilled, me a girl, had fitted it properly and , yes it took me five hours including faffing , swearing never to give up and having to go and get bolts from b and q to fit the new regulator but I was elated when I did it...... Then I decided to treat my little silver bullet to a top up of screen wash and take her for a spin so I could feel the breeze with that window open..... I opened the boot, pulled the bonnet release and .... snap and a spring fell onto the floor at the front end. I have just spent an hour trying to push open a bonnet catch with origami hands having snipped open the edge of the mesh- result my little hands are cut to pieces and I am completely deflated after my high because whilst I could get a big latch pushed back it wont release to let that open. I know I am a newbie but can anyone PM me as I cant really afford to get a mechanic to look at it and was enjoying loving my mg and my courage to improve her myself!
