K series will not start

Hi all i know this is not a ZR but it does have the same engine friend jumped in his freelander this morning and the car would not turn over suspect the starter motor, power going to it and little wire lighting up when ignition is turned on cleaned little terminal and sprayed WD40 but still no good put it in 2nd gear rocked it and still no joy have i missed anything apart from trying to jump start it?
