Is the Gear Knob the same for all cars?

Having purchased a nice walnut gear knob for the 620ti, I started to wonder if indeed it would fit. Rimmer's seem to list the same part number for all cars but the picture seems to show a different fitting, does anyone know if they are all the same and how do you remove it?

I can't check mine at the moment as the car is still in the bodyshop.
