MG ZR ZR 160 problem

Hi not sure if this would be better posted elsewhere but here goes....started my Z today nothing out of the ordinary there, pulled away then noticed my battery light stayed on. I've pulled over stopped the engine to check under bonnet for any visible problems, not mechanically minded just thought it was worth checking there was nothing obviously loose. Nothing I could see, tried to start it again and the battery was drained, the panel lights flickered on ever so slightly but that's about it. Left it a few hours as it was seeming to get a little life when I left it for a short time and tried to start it.

I've been back for it, managed to get it started after a bit of pumping the accelerator (rightly or wrongly) there was very little battery power but just managed to catch it and it's started. On the very short way back home the battery light, ABS light and the handbrake light all stayed on.

Would anyone have any idea what I could try please? Thanks x
