MGF Clutch fork problem

Hiya all. Been a while since I've posted on here. Our 97 MGF has really behaved itself after I replaced the head gasket and inlet manifold.

The new subject for me is that I have an opportunity to buy another 97 MGF that has a problem with the clutch fork not returning, so it selects all the gears but just wont move!

The man at the garage says that this is a common problem with MGFs and that the cost of the repair makes it not worth doing.

Howrver, I'm still up for buying it as its such a nice example and I have the all the know-how to fix it. Just wanted to ask if this is a common fault as I've not heard of it.
