ABS ocassionally cuts in???

It may happen once a day or once a week but the ABS kicks in by way of the pedal judder you get.

Its the Rover 45 saloon by the way. Not the 75.

The ABS light will come on at start up but goes out as it should within a couple of seconds. Any ideas on what it might be?
