Battery MG ZS

Hey guys, quick question. I think my battery is on the way out - keeps going flat really quickly and did it last night after I had the internal light on for about twenty minutes! I've not had to replace a battery before so I was wondering if you can tell me what I should look for, what will last, and if there's a way I can tell that it is the battery rather than the alternator?
