HG replacement on a working ZR?

I'm getting a 1.4 ZR on Thursday, 2004, 78,000 miles, ready to drive away. Condition is very good, has all service history etc so I'm pleased.

I can only assume that at one point in its life it's been abused, so coolant may have been low, possible poor HG failure etc.

Do I take the time to drain all fluids, fit a stronger SAIC gasket, so I have the confidence it's going to be fine for me, or do I just keep the coolant topped up, let the engine warm up enough and expect that one day it'll go?

My brother has a 1.4 SPi met gti. The HG went at 50 or 60k, fixed with chemical metal and even after sitting for 6 years through a restore (no engine rebuild), it's now over 110k. It does get maintained well though. So I do have confidence in the engine as a whole, but not a car that's possibly been handed around a bit with varying degrees of maintenance.

Any suggestions?
