Rover 45 MPG improvement

My Rover 45 is used mainly on short journeys. The MPG is 43.5 consistently. The engine seems good but a little lacking in low down grunt, the motor starts to pull reasonably at 1750 rpm however really lifts up her skirts and flys at 2400 to 3000 and keeps on revving if the road is long enough.



Has anyone had a mapping that improves MPG? Maybe even removed the MAF?



I don't want to spoil the MPG if I can help it, but it does seem sensible to get rid of the MAF and not have to worry about that side of things.
