Aerodynamics of air flow under car.

I know the fronts of our lovely cars aren't the best for air flow through the rad and a few have altered the bonnet to assist the cooling. the question is, the air that flows under the car does it pass under without much turbulence and can this be used to aide engine bay cooling or does it already?
