Are SAIC in the UK, for the UK?
If that question doesn't make sense... Are SAIC in the U.K to benefit the U.K, or just to sell them over in China and sell them as British styled, designed cars, to boost sales?
I ask this because MG in the UK don't really seem to care about anything. They throw money at the BTCC and didn't release a decent roadgoing BTCC edition (I think they sold 1?), and this year getting the manufacturers trophy (albeit meaning nothing b/c TOCA year), but didn't promote it?
I saw 1 MG6 advert on TV, didn't even have UK plates. Never saw this advert again. I've seen the MG3 ad a bit more, but not enough.
There seem to be hardly any dealerships. I've seen no new MG's in my town, (20,000 population). I've seen only a few 6's, most of which coming out of the BTCC events. I've seen ONE MG3. ONE!
Looking at the sales figures, as much as "MG" want to spin them, they aren't very good.
And then the interior. At Croft we sat in a Leon and then a 3, and the difference in quality is just too obvious. I know, different car sizes, but the fact that SAIC haven't really used any soft touch materials (as far as I could see), does make me wonder what they're doing... The 6 is similar.
So... Hardly anyone knows that MG are back in the UK. Their image is still tarnished as HG prone failures. To top this off, they're now made in China.
So really what are SAIC playing at?
