Head Gasket replacement, how long does it last ?? ...

As header asks ....

I had my underfloor coolant pipes replaced today with stainless steel. Together with new expansion tank as mine was dirty & opaque.

Anyway......talking to mechanic who did job, he asked if I had had the gasket replaced. Yes I replied, by previous owner about 8 yrs ago, with uprated MLS type.. To which he replied, "you are doing well, they only last about 2-4 yrs then need doing again" !!

I thought once it had been replaced & done properly, it will last lifetime of engine if maintainance procedures are followed correctly ?

I have complete confidence in my MGF.

I have all services done on schedule & keep a well beady eye on coolant !!

Any comments on timescales of HGF replacements !
