My Experience with black box insurance.
Hi guys and gals,
I know there's a lot of experienced drivers that wouldn't dream of using one of the insurers that using a telematrics box.
So I thought that I would give my experience of using one such insurer, insurethebox. I only went with them on my Grand Voyager as they were the only ones that offered anywhere near an affordable price for myself with a years ncb, and my wife who had only passed her test just over a year beforehand. We've been insured with them since April.
Earned lots of bonus miles over that time, usually between 90 - 100 each month. My only gripe with that aspect is the fact that if you drive over 2.5 hours without a break it counts against you, and there's no way to tell them that you are changing drivers.
But by far the biggest plus I have found, is that my driving is a lot more relaxed, even in my Rover which isn't tracked.
When I first started driving with the black box installed, I found that I had to make a conscious effort not to stray over the speed limit and be as smooth as possible, to start with it was actually quite hard work, and obviously not going over the speed limit I got a lot of tailgaters which to start with was really annoying. However after a few months it all become second nature. Now I very rarely find myself touching the brakes for a speed camera, I'm also alot smoother in my driving, which in itself has a bonus of improving my MPG.
So on the whole, for myself I would that have a black box fitted has been a positive experience, even though I have held a license since 1999, I would say it's improved my driving.
Would I go with a black box insurer again, yes as long as they competitive price and features wise.
