overheating but blowing cold.

Hi. I have a MGZS 1.8L that just recently started to overheat. At the same time the heater blowers have started to blow cold only. There is no signs of scum or white subsance in the oil but the expansion tank is a bit scummy. As far as I can tell there is no smoke as such from the exhaust.

When the enginr is running I have noticed that the engine gets hot really quick but the water expansion tank is still very cold. Is this a thermostat issue or has my headgasket blown? Could it be my water pump? Please help.
