And so it begins......!!

Hi,

I bought a 2002 TF towards the end of last year, drove it for a bit and then stashed it in my dads garage for a few months. During this time I have amassed some bits including AP calipers and 11 spoke wheels.

Now I have a bit of time to spare, I went to retrieve the car and figured the first job would be to sort out the slow puncture on the OSR wheel. After some horror stories with wheel nuts on here I was prepared for the worst but all 4 wheels nuts came straight off. The wheel however didn't!!.

Plan 2. Pump up tyre and take car home where I can work on it better. Flat battery scuppered that one so it is on charge overnight and no doubt dreams\nightmares of immobiliser problems.

OK, back home and make a start on those APs. Pins out ok, pads out with a bit of a shove and then a tentative attempt at those wear plate bolts. No joy so back on here for a good read and that has left me in a quandary.

I'd like to strip them down fully for a decent paint job and that means removing the wear plates but that could be opening myself up to a world of hurt.

So do I press on and remove the wear plates, perhaps using a lot of heat (10 minutes in front of the space heater?) to loosen the thread lock knowing if I go down that road there may be no return and I may need to split the caliper which I would like to avoid.

Or do I leave them on and mask them up. There is no real build up under them and they look fairly flat.

For those that have done it and have the benefit of hindsight I would welcome your input.
