snow chains

was wondering if anyone has used snow chains and if they work ?,after the recent bad snowy weather in Scotland were the TF was sliding everywhere,i was thinking of buying a new set of wheels with tyres for the snow,which I could change winter/summer, with my summer wheels tyres,and was reading about snow chains and wondered if they are any good and maybe a cheaper option than a new set of wheels and tyres,anyone any experience of these snow chains ?,do they work etc!
