wiring clarion radio cz303 into MGZT

hi all, the MGZT i bought as a doer up has a Clarion radio head unit in it with bluetooth etc ,all works fine but no steering controls>

Took the unit out to find it has a 3.5 mono jack plug on the rear for the steering controls but was not connected.

Also found the ZT has a interface box with an LED which has 3 wires going to it,a black,a blue / purple and a green white.

The LED does not seem to power up when I have tried to re connect the interface box up.

I believe the green/white wire is the 12 volt power feed for the interface box so that leaves the black and the blue / purple wires ?.

Somone has cut the blue / purple wire to the box and connected it to some sort of small interface board which is wrapped in a heat shrink.

The other side of the board has 3 wires coming out of it,a green block plug (like the ones that go into the standad alpine units) with 2 wires, a green wire and a black wire and a seperate red wire which appears to state its for power to an antenna.

A couple of things, Ive checked the steering switches and when pressed im getting a circuit (via voltmeter) on the blue /purple wire so it appears the switches are doing there bit. Ive plugged a 3.5mm plug into the Clarion unit plug where it states the steering controls are to be connected and tried wiring the centre wire of the 3.5pin to the cars blue /purple wire but still not joy. Ive been looking for the other steering control wire mentioned in blogs ,the blue / orange wire but on the ZT there does not appear to be one on any of the other two blocks of wires which are connected to the radio. I know these cars originally had Blaukpunkt units in them which seem similar in look.

From what I can gather the Clarion states it is remote control ready as in, you just plug in and it should work ??? Any ideas !!!
