ZS 120 coolant, oil and misfire joys.

Hi all,

I have a 2004 ZS 120 (1.8 petrol). It has had an oil leak for as long as I can remember, doesnt lose much (max - min in 12 months inbetween services) but has made quite a mess in the engine bay, seems to be coming from upper cylinder head somewhere. Its also losing coolant, again, not a great amount, from RHS of block. It has a lumpy idle and misfire, returns error codes for random misfire and cylinder 4 misfire. All four spark plug 'recesses' are oily, plug ceramics and threads show signs of oil although electrodes are dry on 1,2 and 3. Plug 4 is wet.

Compression test results are 1 - 125 psi, 2 - 100 psi, 3 - 95 psi, 4 - 125 psi.

Coolant test (blue dye block tester) is negative, fluid stayed blue.

Top radiator hose is collapsing as if a vacuum has developed in the cooling system somewhere.

Plug 4 HT lead internals have detatched from the lead and are sooty black.

I have an IMG, 2 temp sensors, coolant pipe (metal one with bleed screw to replace existing one as bleed screw has sheared and may be weeping), thermostat, Cam cover gasket 4 new plugs, 2 new coils and HT leads.

Im working on the theory that coolant loss is either from IMG or sheared bleed bolt or both, IMG is also causing misfire, Cam cover gasket has failed causing oil to seep into plug holes also causing misfire. Plug 4 HT lead has had it, causing cylinder 4 not to fire or fire weakly. Trapped air in cooling system causing vacuum. Compression results suggest HG failure between cylinder 2 and 3 (really hope not!)

EML flashes when engine is under load, throttle past around 30%.

Am I on the right lines or is there something I have missed?

Thanks all.
