how to remove carpet on mk2!? (Handbrake surround!)

Hi guys, turns out my leak is still there and im tracing it... pulling out the whole carpet!



Seats out, just trying to do the last bits! The handbrake surround bit! How the fu... do I get it off!? Its completely disconnected, but I cant manouver it over the gearstick and handbrake at the same time! The gearknob is still on as I cant get it off! Also spotted some tight clips just in front of the doors which seem to be a bugger. Please help! Want this done today! :(
