MOT Blues

My V reg diesel failed the MOT on sills and handbrake.

Took 3 days off work to bring her back to health and today she passed the MOT and only has a mere 225000 miles on the clock.

Firstly, sills are not available, but it is easy to form a repair panel using sheet steel and a folding bar made of either wooden battens or 6mm thick steel strip, a vice and a couple of g clamps. On my car the corrosion was local to where the outer sills are spot welded to the inner sill structure.

The handbrake problem was the result of a pattern handbrake cable which the spring at the drum end became coil bound because of incorrect design. The spring was wound with too thick wire and too many coils when compared to the genuine item, causing restricted travel. Forked out for a genuine MGR cable from Rimmer Bros and problem solved.
