Odd fuel gauge behaviour

Hey all



Just recently my fuel gauge has been intermittently dropping, even with a good half a tank of fuel it all of a sudden drops to absolutely nothing (needle resting on the stopper) now to me this was screaming fuel sender problem, however when the needle dies, the fuel light does not come on? the light works when i actually do get low in fuel dispite whether the needle is working or not, i assume the light works on the fuel sender too? so this one has me a little puzzled



any ideas?
