Retapping bolts ?

So my spark plugs threads have gone i have retapped the spark plug hole and im about to screwthe hex coil thing in. The problem is the tool will not go all the way down the hole so im thinking of screwing the new thread coil thing onto the spark plug then screw the spark plug in ? would this work or do i need to screw the hex coil in by it self then the plug into it ?
