Rover 25 automatic gear box 2003

Hi All

I have just fitted a second-hand gearbox from a breakers on ebay. It drives through the gears ok.if u use the kick down the gearbox light comes on and won't go any higher than first gear.Also the stepspeed will.not go over 2nd gear drops to first.Can anyone please help.
