Wheel torque setting

Yes, I know it's been done before, a simple search will prove that, but it hasn't been touched on specifically for some years.

pengy recently advised me to use a torque wrench to do up my wheel nuts. Well, I gave the old girl a service today (which always includes a wheel rotation in my world). The recommended setting is 110nm which seems a hell of a lot.

This being the first time I'd used a torque wrench on the wheels, I'd thought I'd use my traditional 'lean on the wheel brace with all my shoulder and arm muscle backed up by my not inconsiderable bulk' method, a method beloved of professional and amateur mechanics the world over.

Then I used the torque wrench.

Every wheel was above the recommended setting and probably well above it because the wrench clicked off instantly on every nut.

I'm not mad enough to have backed them off and tried again because the wheel brace method has always served me well. I'll be doing them again in 5,000 km and that comes up horribly quickly in my world, so I'll do them properly then. Be interesting to see what the results are.
