Problem with rover 75 2003 diesel se RJ

Hi I have read some post's that I have learned from I have a 2003 rover 75 cdt se diesel that did start then cut out after min or so iam thinking fuel pump but not sure had auto elec out and he said low fuel pressure so think its pointing to pump its had pump relay and filter done but when the car was not running right and the elec guy did say he could hear the pumps just wondering even though they can be heard is it possible that one or both have broken. be grateful for any help plz as been a month since car ran
