Webasto pre-heaters
Webasto pre-heaters
I've just found out that some 75s (diesels?) came with Webasto pre-heaters factory fitted. Project Drive may have got rid of them. Are they commonly fitted but just rarely mentioned?
I gather that some direct injection diesels are so efficient they need an auxiliary heater on cold days to keep the engine temperature up.
I'd like to know how they work. They heat the coolant in the engine using a bit of fuel, so must use some electric pump to circulate coolant and bypass the stationary regular pump? How do they then defrost the interior without putting the fans on? Can they be used as a parking heater, and where are the controls normally located?

Cheers,
jebel (who doesn't yet own a 75)
