ECU well remapped & sent abroad by SAWS Tuning
I see lots of guys smiling: what's for? It's not worth the effort! So preposterous on so little an engine! You may opt for a bigger engine if you want more power! Or buy for cheap another one more powerful! And the like...
But I'm living abroad, in France, where MGs or Rovers are not so common, low mileage rather rare, and mostly far more expensive : I gave last year £2,200 for mine, 37k ml, first hand one, very cared for, no option, and I wasn't robbed. It was the right price, as given by the official quotation called Argus. I love my wee bonny 25!
Easy job to swap the ECUs, save the fuse box which is a bit obstructive, even bolts taken off. I asked my wife to maintain it aside (wires are very short and a bit stiff) while I was working on the ECU.
At once it worked and the engine started immediately.
Then once more, after lunch, I unlocked the doors from outside with the fob, sat again, put the key in and started without any difficulty.
Then I had a little 20ml journey.
I must say that I am very grateful:
- the engine is more responsive on every gear,
- I do not feel any more that little time out when changing the gear,
- it looks more aggressive on every move of the pedal,
- even in 5th gear I do not feel that laziness to speed up,
- and even between 2.5k & 3.5k revs it has more grip and looks more efficient.
- The engine noise seems a slight bit more raucous.
- I was able to keep the 5th gear much more easily, even when driving uphill, no more need to go down in the gears when slowing the pace then accelerating again.
- And of course no need to change or synchronise the old fobs, alarm & immobiliser were definitely deactivated, even the red light on the dash is still flickering in the same manner as earlier before.
- And I hope to gain a few more MPG driving at the same pace. Mind you that my average MPG is already 46.7 for the last 10 fuel-ups!
It's a complete success and my face was like the smiley @lolsteve98 drew on the ECU!
I am very happy to praise @lolsteve98 and SAWS Tuning (on Facebook & Ebay) : the result is not at all expensive & worth every penny, even for a 02 plate Rover 25 1.4 102bhp.
BTW, I would be pleased to get any explanation about the 6th letter of my new ECU vin (SAR RF S W A B 5D 808206).
According to Rimmerbros :
The 6th letter represents the Class of vehicle eg:
C = 200 BRM
D = Streetwise (RO)
H = 200, 214i, 220D (CO)
J = 200 (S2)
K = Streetwise (R1)
L = MG (M2)
M = 200, 214Si, 216Si, 220SD, 220SKi, 200 (C1)
N = 200 (TL 3.1)
P = Streetwise (R2)
W = 200Vi, 200 (S1)
X = MG (MO)
Y = 200, 216SLi, 216Si (LHD), 220SDi (LHD), 200 (Y2)
Z = 200 (C3)
But my 6th letter is obviously an "S" without any hesitation!
How on earth can I know which type of vehicule it goes from?
Let's take out of the cellar a good old bottle of Champagne!
Cheers!
Thank you Steve for that early Xmas gift!
