Ignition block fix
A few weeks back a couple of people posted regarding thier ignition block, fault being when you removed the key the part the key fits into would either pop half way out or fly off completely. Without this part in the ignition you cannot operate the key.
Some people had resorted to fitting a replacement ignition setup, only problem with this is you have to use a seperate key for door and ignition unless you change all the locks.
My daughters ZS developed this fault and I tried tho bend edges of part that breaks off which worked for a time but then failed. So I decided to change the faulty part with one I have on my spare ignition block whilst leaving original ignition block in car. This makes sense as mk2 cars have anti tamper bolts plus a protective shield so woul mean a lot of work.
It took about 20 mins to carry out and entailed removing top and bottom plastic covers (3 screws Phillips head) I then used a large mole grips to turn end part of ignition block clockwise about half inch. I then worked it back and forth until I could grip the 2 pins and pull them out. You are then able to remove end cover which exposes the broken part that pops off. I simply removed the bas of the broken part and replaced with the replacement part off spare ignition block, popped cover back on, twisted back anti clockwise and tapped in the 2 pins to secure it and replace 2 plastic covers.
That's it she now has a working ignition block using original key, shame she bought a new car just after I did this and car is sat wasting away lol.
I hope people can make sense of my rambling but I'm not the best at how to posts.
If it will help anyone I can post some pics of the parts to clear up things, will upload pics later.
Just need to get another spare ignition now just incase mine fails
