MGF MkII - Door handle

Got in a bit of a mess. Trying to change my nearside door mech but found that I couldn't get the lock up enough. The issue seemed to be with the rod that attaches to the outside handle. However, the rod itself now seems to be loose and no longer attached to the outer handle. Does anyone know how this is attached or how to remove the handle to get to it ........ I hope not having to remove the glass, they never go back in right.
Any pointers please?
