Speedo failed - R25 1.4

Now here's a speedo related riddle for the collective: X reg Rover 25 1.4 without ABS, R65 gearbox. Speedo doesn't work.

Lucky enough to have a friend's 25 parked next to it, so I've done some swaps: my instrument cluster works in his car, ditto the speed sensor/transducer from the GB, even tried the ECU (because according to the HBOL the speed signal goes via the MEMS).

Have tried his parts in mine and nothing works.

Have buzzed the wires from the transducer to the ecu and also checked voltages and all seems ok. Am struggling with ecu to instrument cluster as HBOL doesn't show that connection :-( What plug/colour wires goes ecu-instruments?

Have I missed something obvious? Really starting to annoy me now! Obviously my Google-fu must be weak on this, because I just haven't come across anything helpful online. Even the wiring diagram would be a great step forward!
