Ground to a halt
had my first proper breakdown on the motorway last night. After a 250 mile trip from Cumbria to Chippenham I lost all power about 45 mins from home.
Oil is fine, battery is fine, engine will turn over fine - just wont fire. I noticed that I had just under a quarter of a tank of fuel left so I suspect the in tank fuel pump. The RAC put another 10 litres into the tank and got the engine running again by spraying stuff into the air intake. When he stopped spraying the engine stalled. I guess this would have been sufficient to have bled the system of air?
Would this be consistent with a failed in tank fuel pump?
I did some research whilst I was at the side of the road but most of what I found regarding replacements was a good few years old. So, can anyone suggest what the proper replacement is? I saw references to an Peugeot replacement, then something else from MKon I think. I found a decent 'how to' but does anyone offer a fitting service? I found a member called Jules who sells the pump on Ebay for £90 but whats the best currently accepted replacement and the most recent 'how to'?
