air intake feed

hi folks
have taken my mg zr td off the road for winter and want to do a few upgrades.
main one is fitting a new intercooler where the aircon rad was and then rerouting the pipes but I want to think about a straight air feed into the filter box from the front spoiler. so because the original feed which is situated behind below the headlamp then into a u bend seems to me restrictive.
so is it the mass of air or the force of air into the filter box which would help. I have perfect black mesh cover for front spoiler and car will only be used in summer months.
