*HELP Head Gasket Gone* Anyone help in Bristol?
Morning, i have literally just signed up but just over a week ago my car just became sluggish while driving home one evening and eventually gradually came to a slow stop and i was unable to start it. It started and run completely as normal literally 10 minutes before, the only thing i noticed was that while having the heater on, it wasnt betting hot. The battery light, oil light and amber malfunction light were all on. I eventually got it started again by blipping the accelerator but the same thing happenend again a bit later on. I left it 10-15 minutes as i was going to just remove the battery to charge and thought i would try and start it one more time which it did and no lights were on and i managed it get it home. I charged the battery overnight, connected it back up the next morning. The antifreeze bottle was empty so i put some fresh in and started the car which it did and again no lights were on but it didnt sound right so i switched it off. I checked the dipstick and it was a light brown almost mjddly caramel consistancy. I undid the oil cap and there was a bit on the inside of the cap and a bit of steam was coming out. A mechanic who lives just up the road said it sounded like the headgasket had gone and the next day ahad a look at the dipstick a said staright away it was. He said i would obviously need a new gasket, uprated and because you need to remove the cambelt, it would be silly not to replace this along with a new water pump. A new water hose was also mentioned and obviously all the major service componants so i was looking at £250-£350 in just parts and same again in labour so £500-£700. He said the block shouldnt need skimming so just thought i would get some more quotes. My uncle spoke to someone he works with and they said its common for them to go on this model of car and obviously the car isnt worth much in value but its what it means to you and cost to get a decent replacement. Thanks for reading and im more than happy to lend an extra pair of hands or be the teaboy or work anyway i can if it gets the price down.
