Clutch Issues.... a bit wierd.

Hi guys, it's been quite a while :D. I'll try and fill you in as best I can, apologies in advance if this is long.

Long Version:

Unfortunately, my mighty 45 has been having some issues. A few weeks ago I tried reversing out of a parking space, took my foot off the clutch pedal and it stayed stuck down. It released after a couple of seconds and all went back to normal...

This only happened a couple of times, but most of the time it was ok (I do a lot of town driving so plenty of clutch usage). After a couple of weeks though, the clutch started to slip if I accelerated hard at speed. Eventually it got to the point where anything above 1/2 throttle the clutch would slip immediately (revs fly up, car goes nowhere for 2-3 seconds).

The garage had a look and told me the release arm was seizing and the slave cylinder was knackered. I replaced the master and slave cylinder, and have liberally applied spray grease everywhere around the release arm.

The clutch now feels much better, bite point is lower and no more sticking, but it still slips if I rev it hard. It slowly seems to be getting better and better though.... if I'm gentle with it for a few days it won't slip at all if I rev it a little, but if I drive it hard through a few gear changes it's buggered again.

The car had a brand new clutch not long before I had it... maybe 15k miles ago. Is it possible that it burned it out a little by not releasing fully, but now that's fixed it's sort of bedding itself back in again?

Short Version:

  • Clutch Pedal was sticking in and feeling stiff

  • Clutch started slipping

  • Replaced Master/Slave Cylinder, greased up Release Arm

  • Clutch pedal no longer sticks and feels much better

  • Clutch still slips over 1/2 throttle when turbo kicks in

  • Clutch slowly seems to be getting better and slipping less and less

Could it be bedding itself back in again after being "glazed/burnished" by not being allowed to properly engage?

Basically, I want to know if I should keep driving it and see if it recovers, or get a new clutch fitted. I really don't want to shell out £350 for a new clutch if I don't need one (which is what I've been quoted by 3 different garages).

Thanks!
