early non intercooled stuff, what's the limiting factor?

So I've got an SD.

I'd considered 45 TD's/ZS TD's previously, but if you've read my intro thread you'd know I was in a pinch and needed a motor.

Once I've repaired my Smart Car (it's cheaper than running a diesel, honestly!), I'll be using that to get to and from work again.

So I may well turn the 420SD into a sleeper and upset a few of the locals ;). I mean I like knobbing about with cars and it'd be a hoot.

So, I'm going to knock up the boost and fueling this weekend, and do an EGR Delete and Decat soon, because I like the idea of using less fuel and things being efficient, and I've read "the guide".

I'm going to intercooler the car, simply because I can make it look stock, and it's a bit of a safety blanket as well as providing a bit more guts.

But once I don't need it anymore, how mad can you go with these?

I mean I know it's a hardy engine.. and I know a bit about diesel tuning.

I was involved with a friends 205 a few years back, before everyone was doing XUD's, and we managed with pump upgrades, and a turbo, to get 14 second quarter miles.. it made a lot of power and torque and was a laugh!.

Smoked well too

;)

So what's the limit on these engines?, I guess the pump without mods an only flow so much, and even with larger (hybrid 200TDi?) injectors, pump work and a larger turbo, that'll hold stuff back.

How much boost can you take before you lift head studs?, how strong is the gasket? I guess the bottom end is pretty stout?

Thanks.
