FT: Dunlop plant closure announcement branded cynical

"Dunlop, which makes racing car and motorcycle tyres, said it had no choice but to leave the site after JLR, which bought the land it is built on, decided not to extend its lease. But documents seen by the Financial Times show the company was making plans to leave the UK before it was told that it would be forced to leave in August."

"Dunlop ruled out building a new factory in the UK as too expensive and said its two-year construction time risked leaving customers without supplies."

"Production figures seen by the FT suggest that the company appears to have been building up stocks during the past three years in anticipation of a move to shut the facility."
