Rover 75 1.8 Petrol Connoisseur Starting Issue

Hi All,

Firstly, It's good to be on this site.

Today my wife was driving home when there were clouds of steam coming from under the bonnet. When I attended the scene I noticed the thermostat housing had come away from the engine block and water was gushing out fro uder the car, it seems the bolt that secured it wasn't replaced after I replaced the thermostat when I bought the car a month ago, oops. The thing is, now the car struggles to start as it used to and there are clouds of whiteish grey smoke coming from the exhaust when I rev it to start it. Is this related to the thermostat housing issue or am I looking at a new issue here? The temperature gauge is in the middle as it should be. Strange it has all happened at exactly the same time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
