Steering wheels.
Hi everyone.
I posted a week or so ago asking about leather and plastic steering wheels with a view to buying one from an on-line auction to replace my MG-F's increasingly fraying red and black leather model. After taking on board some good advice here I asked the seller if it was leather or plastic (the wheel for sale is all black and the photo was pitiful so I couldn't tell from it) and he replied assuring me it was leather and in excellent condition. It was therefore a steal at $NZ30 (about 14 pounds or $US23 I think) and so I hit the buy now button, paid the man and sat back and waited.
I received the package today and was excited as I opened it up. It was well-packaged and shrink-wrapped as well so after struggling through the materials finally had it free and bugger me if it isn't plastic! After half an hour of making-a-sailor-blush expletives I emailed the seller informing him the wheel is plastic and definitely not what I wanted. To be fair the guy was apologetic and wants to put things right so he is trying to find me another wheel but he doesn't have any on hand. The issue is it cost $26 extra for freight as he is at the other end of the country so I'm still negotiating about what we are going to do with the plastic one. Bloody disappointing though, especially as I asked him specifically before I bought the damn thing.
And on top of all this my seat belt decided it would not let me pull it out and it is jammed in. After some swot on these forums and a couple of hours sweating and working though the unzipped rear window I found a plastic ring inside the reel has broken, thus permanently engaging the inertia reel teeth and not allowing it to unwind. I tried a mod which only partially worked so will have another go this weekend. I can already hear someone saying sod it, just get a 2nd hand one and I would, except the rogues here want $150 for one and I'm not paying that! I've since fired out some emails to other wreckers/dismantlers and I'll see what comes of it but that seems way too steep for a used seat belt reel.
Anyway, better go and do some more research into wheels and reels.
Hope those in the floods are dry and those in warmer climes are staing cool!
