Clutch making clicking noises

It started when I drove home yesterday...sometimes, when I press the clutch, I hear a single audible click that sounds like it's coming from somewhere underneath the gearbox. I'd say it happens about 50-60% of the time. There doesn't seem to be a pattern (it doesn't happen more often shifting to, or from, any particular gear), and so far, no other symptoms accompany the click that I'm aware of.



Any idea what this could be? Is it an urgent issue that demands immediate attention, or can it wait a while?



The car is a W reg Rover 25 1.4. It runs just fine, and has no problems shifting gears.
