MG6 Engine Cover Conversion
After servicing my 25 I had some time spare so I thought i'd tart up
the dirty engine bay, it still needs a damn good clean but I started
with the spark plug cover, I removed my smoothed DieselDestroyer
bad boy spark plug cover, had it fitted a while now, all I did was add
a Rover sticker added to break it up a bit, will use this on my MGF.
Since I was doing that I dug this out, had it for ages now, just never
got around to finish fitting it as my dremmel was buried in junk.
It is an engine cover off an MG6 1.8 Turbo Petrol, it is based on the
K-Series, they call it a TCI-TECH engine.
Here it is in its normal enviroment.
It needed some fettling but not a lot, there is a trim clip similar to a
door card clip on the underside, that slides out, next the two 'feet'
that sit on the inlet manifold need shortening to about 2cm, I then
trimmed off a large section at the back with my dremmel so that it
wouldn't foul on my strut brace, next up was test fitting.
Once I was happy with the fit I then turned to modifying the oil seal
surround that goes around the oil filler on an L-Series Diesel to fit
flush on the K-Series filler as there is a gap when the engine cover
for the 6 is fitted, with this in place it looks really factory and give it
an oem look, I then de-badged the engine cover as I only have a 1.4
and it would also look odd, plus i'm not ashamed of the fact its only
a 1.4, served me well these last 11 years.
So far so good, next up, some custom decals just for my car, wanted
to keep it OEM looking so I dug around in my box of decals and
badges and found a brand new genuine '25' badge, a new after
market union jack and chequered flag badge along with some after
market numbers, dots and a small 'X', this is what I did.
I am VERY pleased with the results, not only does it look smart but it
is also a first, no one else has done this to my knowledge, I did want
to get this fitted last year for PoL but work and having the time never
happened, anyway, its probably a marmite mod but I like it, should
look better once the rest of the engine bay gets a clean.
