mgzr 160 radiator fixed and looks fine so far but...

Hey all, well i got my new radiator installed and flushed all coolant,added fresh coolant etc. My coolant cap was faulty also as it leaked air when i pressed the top radiator pipe the cap hissed. I prodded the cap insides with a screwdriver and now it seems airtight again. Took the car to skegness and it was fine. Temp gauge did rise slightly a few times but then went back to normal again and it never rose to the three quarter mark(does anyone know why this happends?). People say the mgs etc have a weak head gasket! Well mine has gone through boiling coolant,bold automatic, and water almost on a daily basis this past month. Ive had thick soapy foam pouring out of the expansion tank and massive holes in radiator,but she lives on and head gasket is fine. They cant be that weak can they?......peace
