Transporting long a load (UPVC Door) in a hatchback
I need a new back door and plan to replace the current one (and frame) with UPVC.
Does anyone have experience of transporting loads of this size (about 930mm by 2080mm)? Not only will it stick out the back, but it will have to be tilted up on one side so that the lid will remain open - about 15 inches or thereabouts.
So far as I've been able to figure out on the internet, it's legal in terms of load position relative to the rear axle (although the explanation I found was almost incomprehensible, so I'm not certain). I can also make a temporary number plate if needs be. I'm not worried about trivial matters like exhaust fumes - any danger there is barely even theoretical, but I'm sure there are factors I haven't considered.
