45 auto problem

Got my Dad a beautiful Rover 45 Auto 18 months ago.

All leather and unmarked with just 40.000 on the clock.

Now he tells me that it has been "revving".

Take it for a run all lovely 80 mph what's the problem?

Stop for a while restart and now car is stuck in 1st and 2nd gears and ultimately stuck in 1st gear.

Have to bring it back about 10 miles and fry the box.

Is it scrap?



Have read that there is an electric switch under front of gearbox to check.

Am I wasting my time? Should I spend a day take this out test and replace?

It has thrown transmission oil out because it got so hot.

Do I drain and refill or am I wasting my time?



Someone who knows about these auto boxes tell me stick or twist.

In which case who wants all the fixings and fittings of this once lovely car?
