Clutch Master Cylinder Problem

Hi guys,

After a whole 3 weeks of 75 ownership something's finally gone wrong!

The clutch has steadily been getting harder to engage for the past week, more play in the clutch pedal before it engages and a couple of times it has just stuck to the floor with me having to bring it up manually. Now I can't select a gear unless the car is turned off.

Now the slave cylinder was changed about 3 years ago and the master done last year, with receipts to prove it. When I took a look I couldn't see any oil around the bell housing and the master cylinder inside looked a bit oily so I'm about 40% sure it's the master that's gone.

My question is, I've been offered a master cylinder of a 75 v6 for £25. As I would prefer to try the cheaper/easier option first, would that master cylinder fit a diesel? As far as I have read the cylinders are the same just the pipe work different. However one of you fine people may be able to educate me better.

I should note it's a 75 estate Cdt that I have

Alternatively any ideas what else it could be?

Many thanks

Nat
