So I picked up my first TF yesterday.
I picked up an MGTF 160 in Dark metalic blue yesterday.
I drove it two hours home with the roof down - awesome! (my scalp went numb from the wind lol!)
It was great fun and even though people at work mocked by telling me to take a large bottle of water it ran great.
Today I have spent all day with the clay bar, polisher and wax. It had quite a few scratches all over and now it looks 100% better.
Tomorrow I will change the oil and filter
As a bonus it has TOYO T1r all around - my favourite tyres and has drilled and vented discs.
It is not without issues though, so some advice is required.
After where the two pieces of exhaust go into one there is a flexipipe and then it looks like the joint has failed. The exhaust is quite noisy and appears to be blowing here?
Can this piece be welded or will I need to replace either a section or the whole exhaust? what options are available?
Fobs - I have two key and two fobs. I have not managed to work the remote central locking with either and it appears the fobs only work an alarm system?
Should the car have remote central locking?
Rust - both the rear arches and the ends of both sills have rust. Its surface but will need body work and some paint to repair it back to a good standard.
Is this normal for a 12 year old car that has 70k on the clock?
If I have this amount showing here, would you expect other areas of the car to be rusty too?
Heater controls - Both the speed selector and temperature selector seem to turn way further than they should although they do function correctly. Is there a fix for this?
Gear selection - there is a clunk from the gear selector when moving in second and forth gear. Reverse requires a wiggle to get it to engage. It appears that the selector needs to be moved further forward to alleviate this.
The seller has put a spare second hand set of cables in the boot and said it was a common issue and these would fix it?
Power - I am quite disappointed with the performance, I was expecting the car to feel fairly quick. With only 1000kg and 160 bhp I was expecting a good shove of power. It doesn't feel any quicker than my rover 45 diesel 113bhp!
Maybe I'm just used to turbo diesel cars that have a thump of power when the turbo kicks in or maybe there is a problem?
Of course I not sure what having a faulty exhaust is doing to the power, but I doubt it would be making any difference.
My engine block does not have the VVC on the plenum as someone said it should - Is it possible someone has put in a 120 bhp engine some time in the past? is there a way of testing it to see if I have a problem?
Maybe someone local can come and test drive it?
Anyways - I really like the car and the wife loves it too, just hoping to sort out the niggles asap and get it driven over the summer.
