Rover 45 2.0 TD Starter Motor
Hey guys,
The starter motor solenoid in my 2001 diesel 45 has been sticking on and off for a couple of months. Usually a whack with a hammer gets it going again but the issue is becoming more frequent so I figured it was time to fix it - it does it almost every time I start the car now so it's only a matter of time before it gives up completely.
I followed the sticky guide on these forums and ordered the kit to replace the contacts and clean/repair the existing starter rather than buy a new one. However, upon attempting to get to the starter I immediately ran into major problems and I don't think it's going to be possible for me to do the job myself, in part because I now just don't have the time to fix it - yesterday was my only window of opportunity.
Everything is so rusted on my 45 that the bolts just started rounding off and access was almost impossible. Also, the rear air hose that I needed to remove has been attached from underneath the car so access to the jubilee in question requires me to get the tray off and get the car up and I just don't have the tools.
SO with all of this in mind I've grudgingly accepted that in order to get the car road worthy again I need to get a garage to replace the starter motor for me. New parts seem to be going for around £70 so I'm hoping that it's not going to be a particularly expensive job but I'm hoping someone can give me a ballpark figure of what to expect for parts and labour so I don't get ripped off!
I need the car to be 100% reliable from this Friday evening onwards as it's going to be driven a lot over the next 2 weeks so I can't risk leaving the starter in its current condition.
Any idea how much it's likely to cost me to have a garage replace the starter? :/
Thanks!
Sarah
