T4 diagnostic
Only recently got our 04 rover 75 facelift from a car auction.
A lot of car for little money. MOT 2 weeks ago with no advisories.
One owner. FSH. Spotless. Low miles.
So I expected something wrong or why sell at auction.
Anyway. Upon engine start and stop there was a knock, like engine mount worn, and when driven you get a knocking on bumps in the road as if something is loose, but I cannot identify it from above, or from under the car, so that getting onto a ramp and investigated on Saturday.
Also cooling fan comes on a lot. Fuel consumption is a bit low, 35mpg, even though driven very carefully.
So took it this morning to a garage that has Rover T4 diagnostics.
But the T4 machine would not communicate with my car. The guy tried and tried, put different connection cables between the two, but no joy. Another engineer then plugged in a Omnitec Omniscan and although that appeared to not want to connect as well, it eventually did work on the 4th setting"whatever that means".
He cleared existing fault codes and nothing new showed, so I am told to come back in a few days and see if any faults show up .
Question is, do the T4 diagnostics machines sometimes not connect well or did this guy not know what he was doing?
Steve.
