Zt 1.8T starter problems, help please!
Hi all, I have a ZT 1.8T & in the last few days have experienced starting problems.
I would turn the key but nothing happened, battery checked & all ok, could hear the fuel pump & the injectors priming, but nothing. Then on a random turn of the key the car would start perfectly.
I had to call the RAC out last weekend as it just wouldn't go, the guy did some checks & said it was the starter motor, probably the solenoid. Now my starter is the Nipon Denso one with a removable solenoid, I found a new one on ebay & yesterday tried to fit it, which I thought I had done correctly.
Thing is though, on connecting the battery live terminal something was spinning really fast so I took it off again. I assumed I had reconnected the solenoid terminals the wrong way round so did it again by switching the earth & live terminals on the solenoid around, but again the same thing happened.
This has stumped me so I am asking for help on the next step please. Pretty please really, with sugar on top :-)
I have mobility issues & can only just reach the solenoid & have no chance of removing the starter itself, so what are my options?
I thought about re-fitting the old solenoid to see if the new one is faulty, is that a good start do you think?
Thanks in advance, Brook.
