Remote boot release MkI (2001) Connie

I have the remote boot release button (beneath the bonnet release catch) now not working, if I press the button nothing happens (no machine gunning) taking the switch off and putting a meter on the two wires showed no voltage (ignition key on or off) the actual switch itself is working (tested with a meter) anyone have any thoughts?
