rover75auto diesel

having trouble with my 75auto diesel,startsok,put it in driveand it drives ok till you reach about 2000revs about 25 mph,then it stops going up the gears,just starts high reving without power,drop to 2nd gear and it drives ok,but wont go any faster,any ideas,....
